Update: According to the director's own Twitter feed, Pan's Levi Miller, Scandal's Bellamy Young, Girl Meets World's Rowan Blanchard and newcomer Deric McCabe are all now part of the cast, with the cameras about to roll.

Close to starting production on A Wrinkle In Time for Disney, director Ava DuVernay continues to find interesting people for the cast. The latest likely recruit is Zach Galifianakis, who is in talks to play a character named Happy Medium.

A Wrinkle In Time has Frozen's Jennifer Lee adapting Madeleine L'Engle's 1962 children's tale, the start of her Time Quartet series of novels. The story follows the Murray family; especially teenager Meg (Storm Reid) and her genius 5-year-old brother Charles Wallace, and Meg's classmate Calvin O'Keefe. Their scientist father has gone missing, but after the visit of a mysterious woman called Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), they learn that their father's research may have been more successful than they guessed and that he may have travelled in space and time. The kids end up following his footsteps to a planet called Camazotz, ruled by a giant evil brain called The Black Thing.

Happy Medium, by the way, is able to see different times and places, which we'd guess would come in handy on this particular quest. Galifianakis will be joining a cast that already also includes Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Wrinkle should be out in 2018. On UK screens now in Keeping Up With The Joneses, Galifianakis will be the voice of The Joker in The Lego Batman Movie, due out on 10 February.
