One of the best things about Ben Wheatley's latest – acknowledged by the man himself on our recent live podcast – is the frankly brilliant posters that have been created for it. With High-Rise about to hit cinemas, a new one is now online, featuring one Mr. Tom Hiddleston, who just so happens to star.
Set in 1975, Hiddleston plays Dr. Robert Laing, a young physician who moves into what the marketing pitch has promised will be the ultimate in utopian living. A power cut and the near-total breakdown of social order later, and he’s sitting on his balcony eating his neighbour’s dog. Ballard’s vinegary social comment is intact, as is Wheatley’s gift for creating off-centre worlds filled with memorable characters and sharply observed humour.
And this is just the latest of the posters, all of which we'd be happy to put on our walls and just admire for hours. It all began with the stylish, subtle and satirical teaser posters...
And then the foyer poster, which took us through in to the big main image for the film.
And finally, this kaleidoscope poster, which feels both '70s appropriate and a fine metaphor for the madness that consumes the building.
With Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans and Elisabeth Moss aiding the insanity, High-Rise will be at your local cinema from Friday.
