The cast surrounding Ewan McGregor's grown Danny Torrance in The Shining novel sequel adaptation Doctor Sleep continues to grow. Carl Lumbly, Alex Essoe and Zahn McClarnon are all joining the film.

Published by Stephen King in 2013, Sleep's story catches up with Danny, burdened with the trauma of his younger days and showing worrying signs of his father's violent moods. With a lingering rage and a drinking problem that dulls his pain as well as his supernatural shining powers, he finds they return when he opts to go sober and uses his gifts to help those dying at a local hospice.

After forming a psychic connection with a young girl who boasts similar abilities, he discovers a scary group targeting those who have the powers, improving their own by inhaling the "steam" that comes off people with the shine during painful deaths.

Lumbly will play Dick Halloran (the character brought to life by Scatman Crothers in The Shining), while Essoe is inheriting the mantle of Wendy Torrance, played to wide-eyed effect by Shelley Duvall. Westworld's McClarnon, whose casting was reported by Variety, is on as Crow Daddy, the nefarious right-hand man for Rose The Hat (Rebecca Ferguson).

Gerald's Game filmmaker Mike Flanagan wrote the script and will direct the movie, with Warner Bros. producing the sequel, which hopefully will get King's blessing.
