Sean Penn as a bird: weird. Sean Penn as an angry bird? Now that we can see. And we will soon all be able to see – or at least hear it, as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that he's one of the voices in The Angry Birds Movie.

With the movie just over a month away from release, we'd imagine he's long been finished bothering a voice booth to make his contribution, which apparently will simply consist of providing grunts and growls for a bird name Terrence.

Jason Sudeikisstars as Red, the one angry featherbrain in an island paradise who just can't seem to catch a break and is always fuming about it. There’s also speedster Chuck (Josh Gad), anger management therapist Matilda (Maya Rudolph), and the self-explanatory Bomb (Danny McBride). But then, joining the jamboree as visitors from over the horizon, come a bunch of nautical pigs.

Led by Bill Hader's Leonard, these porcine pals initially seem to be innocent new arrivals, and are accepted by everyone save a suspicious Red. You'll know the story from there – the visitors turn out to be total swines who filch the birds' eggs. The feathered friends then turn to our hero for advice on how to fight back and rescue their kidnapped young. Cue them discovering a variety of powers and a battle for their future. Plus slapstick.

Among the other recent celebrity voice announcements are Blake Shelton and Charli XCX. As for the film itself, it'll crash into the UK on May 13.
