Principle photography hasn't even started yet and moves are afoot for the Blade Runner sequel. But if you were in the group anticipating it, no need to panic: it'll actually arrive earlier.

Production company Alcon Entertainment has decided – without specifying a reason – to move the film's release up from a planned January 18, 2018 release to October 6, 2017. That sound you hear is a hundred VFX techs gasping and worrying that they now have less time to work with.

Denis Villeneuve is preparing to direct the film, working from Hampton Fancher and Michael Green's script. Little is yet known about the story, save that it'll be set decades after Ridley Scott's 1982 original.

Harrison Ford is back as Replicant-hunting detective Rick Deckard, with Ryan Gosling and Robin Wright starring alongside him on this one. Scott is executive producer and Roger Deakins (who worked with Villeneuve on Sicario and Prisoners) is cinematographer. We don't yet have official word on the change here, but given that Sony had planned to release the film in the UK the same day as Warners' US slot, it's safe to assume we'll see the movie shift up to stay the same.
