As Apple continues to build its roster of shows ready for when it muscles into the world of streaming telly next year, it has now gone down a path familiar to other channels, and is closing in on an adaptation of an Israeli drama series. This particular show, in its original form, is called Nevelot, and Richard Gere is attached to star.
The original series, created by Dror Sabo, Daphna Levin and Lee Yardini, adapts a novel by Yoram Kaniuk. It follows two elderly Vietnam vets and best friends, who find their monotonous lives upended when a woman they both loved fifty years ago is killed by a car. Their lifelong regrets and secrets collide with their resentment of today’s self-absorbed millennials, and an act of self-defence snowballs into a tragic series of events.
Howard Gordon and Warren Leight are overseeing the show, both bringing the experience of having adapted from Israeli formats before (Gordon with Homeland, Leight on In Treatment). If Apple decides to go ahead with the show, it'll be in typically limited format, with just eight episodes comprising the first season.
Gere is actually already a work on a series, filming psycho-thriller show MotherFatherSon for BBC Two, which should be on screens next year.
