Patrick Holland, Controller of BBC Two, confirmed at the Edinburgh TV festival that three special episodes would be produced.
The gloriously grotesque British sitcom from Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith and Jeremy Dyson first aired on BBC Two in 1999 and ran for three series, with a highly postmodern spin-off movie, The League Of Gentlemen's Apocalypse, arriving in 2005.
The cavalcade of curious characters quickly created a cult following, with the likes of Papa Lazarou and Tubbs becoming black comedy icons, inspiring quote-a-longs, Halloween costumes and genuine nightmares.
There's been no date announced for when the three episodes will air, except to say that it will be "this year". In the meantime, we have the fourth series of Inside No. 9 from League alumni Shearsmith and Pemberton, also due this year.
