Given that her most recent venture into psychological thriller territory – Netflix series Gypsy – was swiftly cancelled, Naomi Watts would be forgiven for switching to a family comedy or perhaps an action franchise. But she's sticking with thrillers for a new film, The Wolf Hour.

Writer/director Alistair Banks Griffin is behind the film, which will start shooting in New York across the next couple of months.

The story follows June Leigh (Watts), a cultural icon and activist during the 1960s, who has fallen from grace and is now a shell of her former self. When an unknown tormentor starts exploiting her weaknesses, she'll have to face her demons as New York sizzles in a hot summer and the Son of Sam murders stalk the city.

Watts is on screens now in The Glass Castle and will be seen in Hamlet take Ophelia.
