Although you might imagine (and right now you'd be right) that Matthew Vaughn’s focus is on crafting a Kingsman sequel, he hasn’t totally forgotten the Kick-Ass universe, and has pretty big plans for what he wants to do with it.

From the sounds of it, Vaughn was in agreement with those who felt like Jeff Wadlow’s 2013’s follow-up didn’t quite recapture the ribald magic of Vaughn’s first Kick-Ass. And he’s looking to take the series back in time before it can move forward. “We’re working on an idea for a prequel of how did Hit Girl and Big Daddy become Hit Girl and Big Daddy,” he tells Yahoo UK. “If we make that, hopefully that will be the sorbet for the people that didn’t like Kick-Ass 2 and then we can go off and make Kick-Ass 3. I think we’ve got to do this prequel to regain the love that we had with Kick-Ass.”

Whether he ends up in the director’s chair for either of those films is a topic for another day, but from the sounds of it, he’s definitely planning to be more involved moving forward. Hopefully that will also mean the return of co-writer Jane Goldman.
