Despite the cameras already cranking, the first cinematic adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower is not finished adding people to its cast. The latest to join up is Vikings' Katheryn Winnick.

Long in gestation, the current iteration of the project has Nikolaj Arcel calling the shots on a film that stars Idris Elba as main man Roland Deschain (AKA The Gunslinger) and Matthew McConaughey as the villainous Man in Black.

Winnick's role is still a mystery at this point, but she joins a cast that also includes Jackie Earle Haley as Sayre, Fran Kranz as Pimli, Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers and Abbey Lee as a character purportedly called Tirana, but who could turn out to be someone else (unless Arcel and credited co-scriptwriters Anders Thomas Jensen, Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner have changed her character or story for the screen).

The dark fantasy tale will be with us on February 17 next year. In addition to her work on Vikings, Winnick will be seen in action thriller Geostorm, which will arrive in the UK on January 13 next year.
