The remake of Pet Sematary, once again based on Stephen King's horror novel, has finally left the woods of development and is speeding towards production. John Lithgow has joined the cast to play Jud Crandall.

Jason Clarke is starring as Louis Creed, a father who moves his family to a new home, and strikes up a friendship with Crandall, who knows the secrets of the small town they've arrived in. When the family's cat is killed in an accident, he guides them to a place beyond the local "pet sematary" (the spelling is in the book, based on how the neighbours have written the sign) and terrible things unspool from there.

Lithgow inherits the role from Fred Gwynne, who played Crandall in the first film. Directors Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch will call the shots, and Paramount is aiming to have the movie in cinemas next April.
