Stories of Earth occupied by alien forces are common in science fiction, as in the recently-cancelled TV drama Colony. Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes director Rupert Wyatt has his own take on the subject, and the first teaser trailer for Captive State is now online.

The film, co-written with Erica Beeney, is set nearly a decade after an extraterrestrial force occupied the planet and essentially wiped out poverty and crime. But at what cost? Focusing on one Chicago neighbourhood, the story will follow various people, some who are happy to collaborate with the mysterious (thus far) alien "legislature" and those who want to fight back against them.

Holding up a mirror to the surveillance state and asking questions about the cost of freedom, Captive State boasts the likes of John Goodman, Vera Farmiga, Ashton Sanders and Machine Gun Kelly in the cast.

Captive State will occupy UK cinemas on 12 April next year.
