Author Joe Hill's work has already hit the screens once with Horns, and rights to his other books and stories have quickly been snapped up. The latest tale to attract attention is his novella, Snapshot 1988.
The story, part of a four-novella compilation that won't be published until late 2017 or early 2018, attracted plenty of attention from studios partly because of its author but also its 1988 setting, as companies start looking for 80s-set materials in the wake of Stranger Things' success.
As the title suggests, Snapshot is set in 1988 and finds a 13-year-old boy taking care of his elderly former housekeeper that everyone things is succumbing to dementia. But it turns out there's a much more sinister issue at play here, as an evil man known as The Phoenician is stealing her memories using a mysterious camera.
Oculus and Before I Wake writer/director Mike Flanagan is in talks to work on the adaptation alongside regular collaborator Jeff Howard. The pair has Ouija: Origin Of Evil due here on October 21. Hill's next release is Strange Weather, the novella compilation that includes Snapshot 1988.
