The TV adaptation of Bong Joon-Ho's dystopian thriller-on-rails Snowpiercer is coming together quickly. With Daveed Diggs already on board to star, Jennifer Connelly is joining the cast.
Snowpiercer, which has Josh Friedman acting as executive producer and show-runner, and Doctor Strange's Scott Derrickson producing and directing the pilot, will loosely adapt the film, maintaining the vision of a train that circles the globe after the world is turned into a snowy wasteland. The passengers are segregated along class lines, with the wealthy living in much more comfortable quarters.
Diggs is on to play Layton Well, a prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions in the tail end of the train. Connelly will be Melanie Cavill, one of the privileged few in First Class who works as the Voice of the Train – the person making the daily announcements over the PA system. And despite her cushy life near the front, she's fascinated by the lower class passengers.
While this marks a very rare TV job for her, Connelly will next be seen on the big screen in firefighting drama Granite Mountain (due here on 22 September, according to the IMDB) and Alita: Battle Angel, which lands on 20 July next year.
