As he worked on other films, Anvil: The Story Of Anvil director Sacha Gervasi has been quietly trying to put together a film based around the unusual life of The Man With The Golden Gun and Fantasy Island's Hervé Villechaize with Peter Dinklage involved. After years working on it, they've finally got the backing of HBO Films and Jamie Dornan aboard to co-star in My Dinner With Hervé.
Gervasi will direct the film based on his own script, itself fuelled by a story he wrote with Sean Macaulay. My Dinner With Hervé takes place during one wild night in Hollywood as struggling journalist Danny Tate (Dornan) meets Villechaize and the encounter changes them both.
The director has a personal stake in doing the actor and its subject justice – in his journalistic days, he conducted the last interview with Villechaize before the actor took his own life in 1993 aged 50. The freewheeling chat saw Villechaize sharing stories from his life and career.
