New images from The Tick arrive online

The Tick – Griffin Newman as Arthur; Peter Serafinowicz as The Tick

Spooooon! That can mean one of only two things. Either The Tick is back, or someone on the Masterchef set is having a bad day. Fortunately, it's the former, and new images of Peter Serafinowicz, Jackie Earle Haley and the rest of the cast are now online. Check out Serafinowicz and Griffin Newman above.

With Amazon giving creator Ben Edlund a new crack at a live-action series (the previous attempt lasted but a few episodes), this version of the show finds usual (and long-suffering) Tick sidekick Arthur Everest (Newman) convinced that his city is in the control of a global super villain everyone else believes to be dead. But what is a powerless accountant to do when all around him think he's crazy? He'll need the help of The Tick, the strange blue superhero who, when we meet him here, is suffering from memory loss issues.

The threat, you see, is very real: The Terror (Haley, looking like he'll be able to go even wilder than he has been doing in Preacher) has big plans, and it'll take a group of heroes to stop him.

“Visually and thematically this new Tick lives in the textures and rhetoric of today’s superhero saturation tsunami — and for it to be something you want to watch for hours, it needed to find its way to a story with heart and stakes, as well as absurdism,” Edlund says in a statement. “Is it a radically new hybrid of humor and super heroic action with characters you will care desperately about? Yes it is.”

The cast also includes the likes of Valorie Curry as Arthur's sister, Dot, Brendan Hines as powerful hero Superian and Yara Martinez as Ms. Lint. Amazon Prime members will get a chance to watch and vote for the initial episode as part of the streaming service's next pilot season, due August 19. Take a look at the intial images from the show, which emerged online a couple of weeks ago.
