Though we're sure Warner Bros. has not completely given up on the idea of turning its Justice League Dark (or Dark Universe) characters into a live-action film, it appears the company is choosing to go the animated, direct-to-DVD route it has long established with the main Justice League. According to the BBFC listings on the upcoming Batman: The Killing Joke release, there will be a sneak peak at a Justice League Dark title.

In development for a while under the Dark Universe title, it teams DC heroes who are supernatural rather than traditionally super. The comic book version was part of DC's push to de-clutter its decks and fold its Vertigo-type characters into its main "universe".

Guillermo del Toro was attached until last year and had hinted that his chosen roster for the film would include Hellblazer's John Constantine, slinky magician Zatanna and her father Zatara, Swamp Thing, Deadman, The Demon and The Spectre. Whether that line-up is actually in the animated version remains to be seen. You can get an inside look at The Killing Joke right here.
