George Clooney is gearing up his next directorial project, Suburbicon, and he’s been rooting through his Rolodex for an Ocean’s Eleven-level of starry talent. Woody Harrelson is the latest A-lister to sign up.
The Wrap reports that Harrelson will join a cast that already includes Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, Josh Brolin and Oscar Isaac, who all came on board at the end of last year. Clooney will direct from a script by Joel and Ethan Coen, no less.
Harrelson is no stranger to Coen brothers material, having appeared in No Country For Old Men. All the key cast have appeared in Coens films, in fact, and Clooney is a regular collaborator, having appeared in four of their films, most recently Hail, Caesar!. The Coens had planned to direct Suburbicon themselves, before handing the reins to Clooney.
We don’t know much about the film, except that it’s a small-scale noir crime drama-comedy, set in the 1950s, in the vein of the Coens’ Blood Simple. It sees a perfect family broken apart by a home invasion, and will apparently show "the best and worst of humanity". Classic Coens stuff, then.
