The combination of Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones (plus good writing, direction, etc.) led to an Oscar win, several nominations and plenty of praise for The Theory Of Everything. Now director Tom Harper will be hoping that bringing them back together aids his new film The Aeronauts, which has the pair in talks to star.

If it all works out, Jones will play balloon pilot Amelia Wren, who embarked on a courageous journey in 1862 alongside scientist James Glaisher (Redmayne). The pair travelled higher in an open balloon than anyone had tried before – or has since – looking to discover the secrets of the heavens. But as they headed for the highest points of the atmosphere, their journey became an epic fight for survival.

Jack Thorne has written the script for the film, which has Amazon Studios' backing, after wining the rights in a bidding war. While it appears that the leads are close to deals, there's no schedule in place to shoot yet.

Redmayne will next be heard in Early Man (due on 26 January) and returns as Newt Scamander for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, which is out on 16 November next year. Jones is working on Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic On The Basis Of Sex, which has yet to confirm a release date.
