As if it had Magneto shoving doors open for it, the X-Men-connected TV series has been moving swiftly through the development process. Now Bryan Singer, a man with just a little experience in the mutant arena, is directing the pilot episode.

Singer was already attached as an executive producer to the project from 20th Century Television, which has Burn Notice writer/producer Matt Nix attached to write the pilot and run the show if it makes it to series. That's not a definite, but Fox seems very enthusiastic to keep its X-Men universe expanding to the small screen, with Legion hitting cable channel FX shortly. And Singer, while he seemed to hit a road block with last year's Apocalypse, did help to launch the movie franchise and has been a reliable director for pilots that end up on the air, including House and Battle Creek (even if the latter had a brief run).

Nix's concept focuses on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive. The next step will be casting, and then the series could be on the air by the end of the year.
