July brought the news that yet another incarnation of killer doll horror franchise Child's Play would be spawning – this one apparently worryingly independent of overseer Don Mancini. Still, it's moving ahead with Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry reportedly on to star.
Collider reports that the pair are now attached to the new film, written by Kung Fury 2’s Tyler Burton Smith, which will follow a group of teenagers battling a ‘technologically-advanced’ doll, with up-and-coming Norwegian director Lars Klevberg set to direct. The aim is to channel the likes of It (not surprising, given that two of the movie's producers, David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are involved) and Stranger Things to give the whole thing a fresh feeling.
There's still no word on whether Mancini will be given any real input, or if Brad Dourif will return to his traditional role of voicing the deadly doll. The cameras will start rolling soon in Vancouver.
Plaza, who is one of the stars of Legion, has An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn on the way on 23 October. Henry, a regular on Atlanta, is even busier, with Widows landing 6 November, White Boy Rick opening here on 7 December and If Beale Street Could Talk due on 18 January.
