Angelina Jolie clearly isn't letting recent personal troubles get in the way of her movie career. She's juggling offers for several acting jobs, including a return to play Maleficent again and has been developing a new film to direct.
As part of a big piece on the actress/producer/director in The Hollywood Reporter, there are mentions of the Maleficent sequel which Disney has been developing and two other potential new acting jobs, one about Catherine The Great and the other focusing on a spy. The Catherine movie would adapt Simon Sebag Montefiore's book Catherine The Great And Potemkin: The Imperial Love Affair, which charts the long love affair between the Russian ruler and Prince Grigory Potemkin, the military leader who helped her conquer Ukraine and Crimea.
The espionage script is drawing from Clare Mulley's tome The Spy Who Loved, which follows Christine Granville, the alias for Krystyna Skarbek. She was a Polish aristocrat who became one of Britain's most highly decorated intelligence officers. A woman of action, she skied into occupied Poland and rescued one of her many lovers from a Gestapo execution squad. It's perhaps not a surprise that Ian Fleming based the character of Vesper Lynd on her for the original story of Casino Royale. And those are without considering the fact that Universal is still looking to lure her for the new version The Bride Of Frankenstein to help fill out its monster cinematic universe.
Even as the acting offers pile up, Jolie is also quietly working up her next directorial possibility, adapting Alessandro Baricco’s 2004 novel Without Blood, which is set during an unnamed war and charts a child growing up to hunt down her father's murderers in peacetime. And before any of that, she has Cambodian drama memoir First They Killed My Father due on Netflix this year.
