Aaron Taylor-Johnson is heading to the Amazon. Not the Amazon (the rainforest in South America), but Amazon (the online-retailer-turned-media-behemoth). Taylor-Johnson has signed up to star in The Wall, a new thriller to be directed by Doug Liman and released by the newly-formed Amazon Pictures.

The script by, Dwain Worrell, made it to the Black List in 2014 (the annual inventory of Hollywood’s best unproduced scripts) and this would be the first full-length original feature to be released by Amazon.

It’s described as a “deadly cat and mouse thriller” between an American sniper (played by Taylor-Johnson) and an Iraqi sharpshooter.

Liman joined the project back in March. He had originally planned to start shooting X-Men spin-off Gambit with Channing Tatum this year, but it continues to falter in somewhere approaching developmnt hell, and has been pushed back to next year.

Liman also has post production on his Tom Cruise CIA drama Mena (due for an early 2017 release) to worry about, and there is the not inconsiderable matter of an Edge of Tomorrow sequel on the horizon (also with Cruise).

Taylor-Johnson has been plenty busy himself: he’ll be seen next in Nocturnal Animals, the latest film from designer-turned-director Tom Ford, which has been generating awards buzz galore.
