If you were excitedly waiting for the return of Gal Gadot's Diana Prince to our screens next year in Wonder Woman 1984, we have news. You'll have to wait until June 2020 instead.

Warner Bros. announced the news on Monday, pairing the slightly bitter pill of the delay with word that it'll screen in IMAX. But should this set you worrying that something is wrong with the latest instalment of the best DCEU film series so far, don't panic just yet. According to the studio, the delay is so that 1984 can occupy a similar summer slot to the original.

"We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did," says Warner Bros.' Jeff Goldstein. "This move lands the film exactly where it belongs."

The sequel, once again directed by Patty Jenkins, picks up Wonder Woman's story in the mid-198s, where she will face new threats (including Kristen Wiig's Cheetah) and have to deal with the fact that Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) is somehow also back, seemingly from the dead.

Wonder Woman 1984 will now be on screens on 5 June 2020. But there was much less enticing news for the long -gestating film version of The Six Million Dollar Man show. While The Six Billion Dollar Man (for it was titled to keep up with changing heroic economies) had been on track to start shooting with Mark Wahlberg next summer for a 2020 release, the loss of current writer/director Damian Szifron has led to the film being pulled entirely from the release slate for now. Which meant the space was free for the Amazonian warrior, so cloud, silver lining?
