Wind In The Willows Review

Mole's underground home is bought by the Weasels from wealthy landowner Mr.Toad and Mole is thrown out. He and Rat start to fight to get his home back from evil Weasels.

In Terry Jones' adaptation of Kenneth Grahame's classic tale, Jones himself plays the irrepressible Mr. Toad whose enthusiasm for cars gets him into scrapes. Steve Coogan is the endearingly pathetic Mole who joins forces with Toad, Ratty (Eric Idle) and Badger (Nicol Williamson) to stop the Weasel takeover of the riverbank.

Not as hilarious as the cast of ex-Pythons and other favourite comic actors might suggest, with masters like this at work it should be hilarious. Nice to see Steve Coogan in an early role and Steven Fry's appearance is a highlight, it's whimsically funny and true to the tone of the book.

A well worked adaptation by Terry Jones but ultimately a let-down.
