The premise of a dollmaker's wife allowing a notorious Nazi doctor (Àlex Brendemühl) to treat her ailing children is chilling. But Lucía Puenzo fails to generate sufficient suspense by approaching this saga set in 1960s Patagonia like a fairy tale rather than a horror story.

Nazi doctor Josef Mengele (Brendemühl) has fled the concentration camps before the fall of the Third Reich. Travelling under an alias, he finds his way to Patagonia and into the trust of a young family in a remote chalet. The demons soon return.
