Trap For Cinderella Review

Micky (Middleton), a hard-partying girl about town, reunites with old friend Do (Roach), much to the chagrin of boyfriend Jake (Barnard). A fire leaves her struggling to recall key details and casts suspicion in Do's direction.

It's not often a psycho-sexual British thriller comes along, so this is a bit of a treat for genre fans. Based on the Sébastien Japrisot novel, it stars Tuppence Middleton as Micky, a London party girl who suffers from amnesia after a fire in the South of France. Flashbacks show her reuniting with childhood pal Do (Alexandra Roach), who clearly has been harbouring an obsession. The plot thickens aplenty. Some developments seriously stretch credulity and the dialogue doesn’t always ring true. But the performances — including a sinister, matronly Kerry Fox — are as enjoyable as the tawdry film noir vibe.

Solid genre fare.
