Tales Of The Night Review

Few produce pictures as consistently ravishing as French animator Michel Ocelot and there’s a timeless magic to these newly minted fairy tales. They are bound by a peculiar linking device involving a cinema technician helping a couple act out stories about questing heroes who have to prove themselves through tricky tasks: a werewolf tries to hide his secret, a drummer strives to make people dance and a youth has to journey through the Land Of The Dead. However, the pick of the six sees a pair of kings attempting to trick the rider of a talking horse into telling a lie. Replete with princesses, sorcerers, mythical beasts and sumptuous backdrops, this is a glorious demonstration of the silhouettist’s art.
