Star Wars Art Competition Entries

People love to draw scenes, characters and vehicles from the Star Wars universe; it's fuelled one of the biggest fan art and industries in pop culture history. The latest to take advantage of that idea are ArtStation and ILM, which ran a competition asking some of the world's best concept artists to have at it. And the results – using the old "a picture is worth a thousand words" idiom – speak for themselves. Check out one of the winning entries, by Mario Alberti, above.

Artists such as Matt Rhodes, Morgan Yon, Paul Dainton, Fan Gao and Igor Bulygin entered, producing some beautiful pieces. The battle on Hoth appears to have been a particular touchstone (who doesn't love AT-ATs and rampaging Wampas, except for perhaps Rebel troops), along with looks at Imperial equipment. And the chance to design some radical new equipment also captured the imagination.

It's fun to think of this as a Star Wars movie that never was, and revel in the work that is produced when experts in their field approach a subject they love. See more of the entries below, and find the rest at ArtStation's site, as reported by Kotaku.
