Rocketship XM 95

Churned out in indecent haste as a spoiler for the elaborate (and dull) Destination Moon, this 1950s outer space adventure at least has a lurid streak and gonzoid plotting to recommend it, not to mention a fashionably cynical nuclear era unhappy ending.

A bunch of square-jawed wisecracking astronauts (Lloyd Bridges,Hugh O'Brian) plus a lady scientist to make coffee (Osa Massen) and a comic relief tower ranks ordinary joe (Noah Beery Jr.) set out for the moon, but get diverted and run into stock footage dinosaurs and the ruins of a lost civilisation which they think was destroyed by nuclear war. No real depth to this but an enjoyable if a bit silly. Bridges makes yet another film stealing turn with his delivery and timing being spot on.

Rubbish, but fun.
