Return to Neverland Review

Jane, the cynical daughter of a now adult Wendy, is kidnapped by Captain Hook and whisked off to Never Land, where she gets caught in the battle between the Lost Boys and Hook's pirates.

★★★★★

Originally slated to go direct to video, Disney deemed this Peter Pan sequel worthy of a cinematic release. It's hard to see why, since the animation is unremarkable and the plot retreads the original.

Jane, the cynical daughter of a now adult Wendy, is kidnapped by Captain Hook and whisked off to Never Land, where she gets caught in the battle between the Lost Boys and Hook's pirates. It does have its moments - a vengeful octopus is a worthy substitute for the original's ticking crocodile, while a pirate ship's flight through a war-torn London and the first look at Never Land provide the animation 'money shots'. Overall, though, it lacks the touch of magic that makes a Disney classic.
