Ramona And Beezus Review

Based on the popular childrens' book series by Beverly Clearly, the movie follows the misfortunes of Ramona Qumiby (Joey King) and her older sister Beezus (Selan Gomez).

This wholesome family comedy is based on Beverly Cleary’s Ramona Quimby books about accident-prone kid Ramona (Joey King) and her older sister Beatrice, aka Beezus (Selena Gomez). Dialogue and plotting are simplistic: this is aimed squarely at young girls; less so women who fondly remember the books or the ’80s TV series starring a young Sarah Polley. This is less about a naughty kid and more about the restoration of the safe, suburban family unit (basic message: marry the boy next door). Still, Joey King is charming, and if her Disney-star sister Gomez seems a bit bland, then remember it could have been worse — they originally wanted Miley Cyrus.

Fans of the Ramona Quimby books will be disappointed, but tween girls will love it.
