With a release date of March 23 next year, the sequel to Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans is on an extremely tight schedule. Multiple script drafts have been flying around, and it's not clear if all the locations are even finalised, but director Jonathan Liebesman has just confirmed that shooting on Wrath of the Titans starts on March 7.

Despite the rush, it does seem as if all involved are keen to avoid the pitfalls - wobbly 3D, haphazard narrative - of the last instalment. Star Sam Worthington went on record last year to acknowledge that "the first one let people down", but Liebesman, who just directed Battle: Los Angeles, promises Wrath will be much more "gritty".

"It's going to be a natural, grounded fantasy movie," he told Coming Soon. "Just think Gladiator with lots of creatures. I'm excited! It's a good opportunity to do something awesome in a great genre with some great actors."

Those actors include the aforementioned Worthington as Perseus, and Liam Neeson returning as Zeus, along with Gemma Arterton, Ralph Fiennes, Edgar Ramirez and Rosamund Pike. Locations scouted so far have been in England, Wales and the Canary Islands.
