Bright – the next film in a long list of upcoming Netflix Originals – sounds incredibly intriguing. Let us lay it out for you: 2,000 years ago there was a dark war on Earth, involving all manner of Tolkein-esque creatures, and we won – but instead of banishing the losers, we integrated them into society. Therefore, in present-day Los Angeles, Nick Jacoby (Joel Edgerton) is able to become the first orc police officer. His partner? The very human Daryl Ward (Will Smith). See them in action alongside the elvish Tikka (Lucy Fry) in our exclusive image below:

As you can see, Edgerton is caked in orc-ness to the point of being unrecognisable. “It’s totally maddening,” director David Ayer tells Empire in our new issue. “[Joel] wanted the challenge. I think it has driven him mad. But it helps for character and performance, so it’s fine.”

Bright also stars Noomi Rapace and has a script by Max Landis. It will arrive on Netflix in December.
