Wes Craven Is Back Back Back With 25/8

There aren’t many people on this earth who can claim credit for creating not one, but TWO bona fide horror icons – yet Wes Craven can. The man who brought us Freddy Krueger is also the man who brought us (admittedly by way of Kevin Williamson) Scream’s Ghostface. So when news breaks of a brand-new, original, Wes Craven horror thriller that centres around a psycho maniac, you sit up and take notice. Three for three, Wes?

The film in question is 25/8, and it’s got a plot that some might describe as ‘high-concept’, others as ‘far-fetched. Anyway, it centres on a deranged maniac who, fifteen years after he was thought dead, returns to wreak havoc by killing seven teenagers who were all born on the 25th August.

"It's more a thriller than slasher film, and revolves around a young kid with a very dark past involving his family and his father," Craven told Variety. The film is produced by Rogue Pictures, and will start filming – with Craven at the helm – in April.

We have to say that Wes has piqued our interest – is the new killer supernatural? Will he speak? What is his chosen method of dispatch? All we know is that this is Craven’s first original horror script since 1994’s excellent A New Nightmare, and that this new psycho should be a darn sight more successful than Shocker’s Horace Pinker.
