Just what is it about phones and Japanese horror? A deadly message is a central part of The Ring, Pulse – about a killer phone virus – has just been remade and now Chakushin ari (AKA One Missed Call) is getting the redo treatment by Warner Brothers.

French helmer Eric Valette will direct the remake, which follows a college student whose friends start receiving mobile phone messages from the future in which they hear themselves die horribly. When she receives her own message, she has three days to try and cheat death. Hhhm… Anyone getting deja vu? Final Destination, you say?

Still, it’s no surprise to learn that Takeshi Miike, the man who brought us Visitor Q and many other horrors, was behind the Japanese original. The film was so successful that it’s spawned two sequels already. The American version plans to start shooting this summer.
