The Void

"There is a hell. This is worse." So reads the delightfully pithy tagline for The Void, a mysterious indie horror with apparent lashings of science-fiction and heavy dollops of practical-effects gore – and in this first-look trailer (exclusive to Empire), it packs a lot into 30 seconds. Take a look below - but be warned, it's extremely-NSFW, and not for the faint-hearted.

The Void comes from writing-directing team Steven Kostanski and and Jeremy Gillespie, veterans of design and FX in high-profile productions like Pacific Rim, RoboCop and the Hannibal TV series, now branching out on their own path.

The pair are "committed to introducing audiences to a unique horror-mythology" with The Void, which they claim will "combine the aesthetic attitude of modern horror cinema as it emerged in the 1970s with the splatter and sophisticated practical special effects that ruled the creature features of the 1980s and early '90s." It's already generated solid buzz in horror circles, with comparisons made to John Carpenter. There can be no higher praise, really.

Dare you enter The Void? Those brave enough should high thee hence to your nearest fleapit on 31 March, where it arrives in UK cinemas.
