The David Fincher/HBO remake of his cult show might not be going ahead, but the creator of Channel 4’s Utopia is still much in demand. Dennis Kelly has been hired to write the latest script draft for **World War Z 2{ =nofollow}.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new hire comes as Paramount looks to keep current director Juan Antonio Bayona aboard after he was tempted by the chance to make another high-profile sequel, Jurassic World 2. But he’s locked in to a deal to craft the zombie follow-up, so Kelly will be doing a fresh pass on a script that was kicked off by Steven Knight.

Paramount and producer/star Brad Pitt are hoping to avoid the chaos that consumed the production of the first film, which saw creative differences between Pitt and director Marc Forster and trouble with the third act in test screenings that meant it was scrapped and Drew Goddard and Damon Lindelof were parachuted in to come up with a new idea.

Regardless of its issues, the movie still made money at the box office ($540 million worldwide), which is why the studio is still so keen to keep the infected horde raging across the earth. Quite what aspect of the ongoing zombie crisis will make up World War Z 2 isn’t yet clear, but we do know it’s taking aim at a June 9, 2017 release date in the UK.
