Yesterday, the Sundance Film Festival team announced the titles that had made it to the list for competition during the event, which runs from 20-30 January next year. Today, it was the turn of those movies which will either be world premieres, or shown in the fest’s various other strands, including Park City At Midnight (which tends to spotlight more genre material) and NEXT (<=>), which focuses on low or no-budget filmmaking.
Among the higher-profile movies arriving in the sections include the likes of Submarine, directed by The IT Crowd’s Richard Ayoade, Cedar Rapids, starring Ed Helms, Perfect Sense, featuring Ewan McGregor and the Paul Rudd-starring comedy My Idiot Brother.
And there also documentaries, with Morgan Spurlock’s new film, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, which looks into the world of branding and product placement. Can’t wait to see which company sponsors that screening…
On the genre side of things, we’re excited to see the reaction to Hobo With a Shotgun. And, as mentioned yesterday, Kevin Smith’s Red State has indeed made the list and will get its world premiere, followed (according to the director himself) by a frenzied rights auction.

Given that Sundance movies often spark debate, discussion and end up released across the rest of the year, we’re intrigued to see which of this year’s entries will prove to be the next sensation. Naturally, Empire will be bringing you all the news and opinion.
