Look, you knew this was coming. It’s been rumoured as far back as 2010, when co-writer Thomas Lennon all but admitted he and Robert Ben Garant were working up ideas for a third film. Plus, given how much money the first entry and Battle Of The Smithsonian made, this was inevitable. But now we know that 20th Century Fox wants a third Night At The Museum film in US cinemas for Christmas 2014.

According to a press release sent out by the studio, Ben Stiller will be back as Larry Daley (though we don’t yet know what he’s up to this time) and Shawn Levy is once more stepping behind the camera to call the shots and wrangle whatever objects/animals/historical figures are called for.

That’s pretty much all the details we have at the moment, since the announcement was simply about the date. No other casting was mentioned and there’s not even talk of who will be writing it, although we figure franchise regulars Lennon and Garant will be on board.

As for where Larry Daley will be off to? That’s anyone’s guess. Given the focus on international box office these days, don’t be surprised if he heads outside the States. Louvre Hurts? A Night At The National History Museum At Tring?
