Hot on the warp trail of news that Star Trek: Discovery's second season cast will feature Anson Mount comes word that someone slightly more unexpected will show up in the next set of episodes. Comedian Tig Notaro is playing Chief Engineer Denise Reno.

Though she might be better known for her comedy work, Notaro hasn't shied away from more dramatic work and particularly showed her acting chops in semi-autobiographical series One Mississippi, which ran for two seasons on Amazon's streaming service.

As for Reno, we don't yet know how she'll fit into the story, other than she's the engineer responsible for the USS Hiawatha. Little has been revealed about Discovery's second season, due to start shooting soon, other than that (spoiler alert!) the iconic USS Enterprise will appear, commanded by Mount's Captain Christopher Pike. And with the Klingon/Federation war now concluded in the series, it'll be interesting to see where the story goes from here. We'll have to wait to see, though, as the series doesn't have a confirmed date to return and won't hit screens before next year. Notaro, meanwhile, has been working on new Mark Wahlberg comedy Instant Family, due in cinemas in 2019.
