It would appear that we’ll have to wait even longer than we thought for Steven Spielberg to get back to **Robopocalypse. He’s now found something else to make in the meantime, locking in to direct **American Sniper **with Bradley Cooper in the lead{ =nofollow}.

Cooper has been pushing this one for more than a year, nabbing the rights to former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle’s book as the first potential project for his production company.

Kyle’s book, which bears the subtitle The Autobiography Of The Most Lethal Sniper In US Military History, finds the Texas-born shooter notching the highest recorded number of kills for an American. But his dedication to his sights and his SEAL mates has an impact on his relationship with his wife. In the time between Cooper optioning the book and this new development, Kyle has tragically died in a shooting accident.

Jason Hall has adapted the book, and Spielberg is looing to get working on the movie for Warners early next year.

Cooper has a busy schedule at the moment. He’s currently finishing up work on David O. Russell’s American Hustle and will then spend some time promoting The Hangover Part III. Once that tour is complete, he’s off to film Cameron Crowe’s next, still-untitled project alongside Emma Stone and Rachel McAdams.

After that? Well, he has a lot of options, but he has apparently locked in Chef, as Deadline reports that T****he Company Men’s John Wells is now attached to direct the comedy drama. Chef, which Cooper first considered back in January, will find him as a disgraced, well, chef who loses his Michelin star-rated restaurant in Paris thanks to drug problems. But instead of crying into his consommé, he decides to gather his crew back together and create an even better restaurant so he can score a full three Michelin stars.

Steven Knight wrote the script for that and Wells is now on board after Cooper and co. got a look at his work on the upcoming August: Osage County and offered him the Chef gig. That one will have to be patient until after Sniper is complete.
