Spielberg On Indiana Jones IV

As part of it's big Stevapalooza day, CHUD.com got to ask Steven Spielberg about what to expect from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. As you'd imagine, the director was very very cagey about the fourth film in the uber-franchise, but he did let loose a couple of details.

The biggest thing was the confirmation that the Russians are the villains in this movie. That's been pretty widely known for a while, but this is the first time it's been 100% confirmed. Spielberg has been casting Russian actors to ensure accent accuracy and avoid any of that weird chewy 'Michelle Pfeiffer in The Russia House' mumbling.

The movie is all but finished shooting, with, by time you read this, only one day to go until Indiana Jones hangs up his whip for what is almost certainly the final time (sob). The director also said that, despite being on the wrong side of 60, Ford has been doing a lot of his own stunts and Spielberg believes you'll be able to tell no difference between Last Crusade Ford and Crystal Skull Ford.

In keeping with its traditional Saturday morning adventure roots, Spielberg is filming most of the effects live, shooting on film – not digital – and keeping his editing in tune with the previous films. This knowledge that we're going to get something in line with the Indy films of our childhood fills us with a warmth that is either nostalgia or accidental urination.

Finally, for fans of things to stick on your walls, Drew Struzan will again design the poster for the movie. That may be the most exciting part of the whole interview, just getting to see another piece of iconic Struzan sketching.

How. Excited?!
