Corporate bosses making pitches to investors don’t usually generate juicy, entertaining headlines, unless you love spreadsheets. But when the person doing the talking is the boss of a major studio – in this case, Sony’s Michael Lynton – there’s scope for something a bit more cine-related. Such as Thursday’s news that the company is planning to make **Spider-Man **spin-offs in some fashion.

“We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man,” said Lynton in remarks published by Deadline. "There are a number of scripts in the works.”

Of course, expanded Spider-Man films are hardly new: The Amazing Spider-Man is on course for a third outing and Venom has been touted as a likely solo project for some time now. But this is the first time a senior executive has come out and explicitly talked about bubbling plans.

Right now, those plans are still, naturally, being kept under wraps. Before you start thinking about possible collaborations with other Marvel characters, remember that Disney and Marvel own the likes of the Avengers, so while Sony can utilise anyone in Spidey’s universe – Aunt May Adventures, anyone? No? – Spider-Man and Iron Man meeting isn’t likely to happen unless someone can knock the studios’ heads together and get them to realise that fans would likely lose their minds over such an idea.

Still, provided the proper avenues (and talent) can be found, what would you want to see spun (pun entirely intended) from Spidey’s web? Sound off below or on Twitter...
