Sigourney Weaver might be best known for playing Ellen Ripley in the Alien films, but there are plenty of people who enjoy her interacting with the Ghostbusters gang across the original two 1980s films. Now, talking to Parade magazine, Weaver has confirmed that she'll make an appearance in Jason Reitman's film set in the same spirit-chasing continuum.

The new movie, the first direct sequel to the second film from 1989, is in the works right now, though a lot about it remains under wraps. We do know it has connective tissue to both original films in terms of story, and that at least some of the original cast will show up on screen, including Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. “It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!” Weaver tells the magazine, revealing that she'll be back as Dana Barrett, who will be hoping that this time she isn't turned into a dog or has her child snatched from her. Indeed, there's a chance that her son, Oscar, will be involved, though the cast for the current film features Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace.

Reitman – son of Ivan, who made the first two films – has written the new one with Gil Kenan, and will be shooting it this year for a 10 July, 2020 release slot. And that's not the only franchise Weaver is revisiting: she's also back with James Cameron and the Avatar crew, with the first sequel in that series currently set for 17 December, 2021 date.
