Solomon Kane proved something of a hit at Comic-Con, and now you can see why with a rather ace trailer that's, er, in Russian. Based on the stories by Conan the Barbarian creator Robert E. Howard, it's the tale of a mercenary soldier (James Purefoy) for Queen Elizabeth I who changes his ways after meeting a demon and fearing for his soul.
This being the movies, however, things are never quite that simple, and as a demon threatens Puritan England years later, Kane has to come out of retirement to fight him off. Now our Russian's a little rusty, so we didn't get much more than that, but the phrase "opening a can of whoop ass" would seem to cover much of the rest of the action.
Our only caveat, then, is that hat. While we realise it's authentic in style and essential to the character, it's also giving us **Van Helsing **flashbacks. Let's hope that director MIchael J. Bassett and the rest of the cast (Pete Postlethwaite, Rachel Hurd-Wood. Mackenzie Crook, Alice Krige) can wash those bad memories away.
