Back in 2004, Mean Girls proved to be something of a minor revelation, with Tina Fey adapting Rosalind Wiseman’s book Queen Bees And Wannabees: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, And The New Realities Of Girl World into a script for Mark Waters to direct. Lindsay Lohan earned some kudos in the lead, and it was a big success for Paramount. Now New Line wants to tap Wiseman’s work for Mean Moms.
Variety reports that Adam Shankman is producing the new comedy, which will use Wiseman’s book Queen Bee Moms And King Pin Dads: Dealing with the Parents, Teachers, Coaches, and Counsellors Who Can Make - or Break - Your Child's Future, though naturally going with Mean Moms as there’s not a cinema marquee constructed that could handle the full title.
Moms will follow a family that moves to a new town, and focus on the blissfully married mother’s struggle to adapt to the world of competitive parents in a posh suburb. While it naturally shares some of the creative DNA of Girls (given that they’re birthed from the same author’s books), Lindsay won’t be needed: the new movie won’t use any of the same characters. They probably couldn’t afford the insurance on her anyway.
Fey isn’t on board either right now: married writing team Dara and Chad Creasey have been picked to pen the script.
