Phillip Noyce Finds Hunter Killer

Late last year, we reported on **Salt **director Phillip Noyce starting negotiations to handle emotionally charged time travel tale **Timeless for Relativity Media. Now it looks like that one might have to wait a bit longer, as though Relativity still wants Noyce to work with them, the company has instead tempted him to make Hunter Killer.

The action thriller has been developing for a couple of years now – Taken**’s Pierre Morel was the last name said to be in talks for it back in 2008 – and it’s based on the book Firing Point by writer Don Keith and retired submariner George Wallace, which for some reason has still not hit shelves.

Anyhow, Hunter Killer finds an American submarine captain on his first command voyage that must team up with the Navy SEALS to rescue the Russian president who has been kidnapped by a rogue general (the Hollywood Reporter’s story calls him a “rouge” general, but we’re pretty sure he’s gone AWOL, not dipped into the make-up cabinet).

Jamie Moss, who wrote Street Kings and contributed to X-Men: First Class, has penned the script along with John Kolvenbach and Arne Schmidt. And while THR brings confirmation, credit for breaking the story goes to Moviehole.

Noyce aims to start shooting the film later this year, once a cast has been rounded up and shoved through the hatch.
