It’s not just Joss Whedon who can sneak away and shoot an entire film without telling anyone. David Gordon Green, who we all thought had been working hard developing Suspiria, has released details of a new movie he shot in Austin, Texas last month called Prince Avalanche starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch.
The movie is apparently a remake of 2011 Icelandic road trip comedy Either Way, which is set in the 1980s and follows two highway maintenance men working together in some of the country’s more remote stretches. Their friendship has developed over the years they’ve shared time on the road and they also discuss everything that comes to mind – including their sex lives, their fears and frustration. We don’t yet know whether Green’s version maintains the same plot, but given the casting, we assume it’s a similar concept. It’s a leap back to the strictly indie world for Green, who has been seeing mixed results with his more recent studio comedies.
Last seen in Wanderlust, Rudd has The Perks Of Being A Wallflower set for release this year, along with Judd Apatow’s This Is 40 (which arrives here on December 21). He’s also filmed indie pic Lucky Dog and is scheduled to work on both David Wain’s latest, **They Came Together **and Adam McKay’s Anchorman sequel, which you might just have heard about.
Hirsch likely regrets starring in dodgy alien invasion pic The Darkest Hour, but is shrugging that off with William Friedkin’s Killer Joe (due June 29) and Oliver Stone’s Savages (out September 28).
