Six months ago, as it headed for some deal-making at Cannes, Timothy Olyphant was set to play The Man On Carrion Road. Somewhere in the interim, however, he seems to have strayed from the path (likely down to scheduling clashes with his awesome TV series Justified), and the news this morning is that he'll now be replaced in the "visceral thriller" by the equally excellent Patrick Wilson{
The story, which sounds very much like a modern-day Western, involves a botched Mexican cartel deal on the back streets of a US border town. Newly-appointed Sheriff Wilson teams up with his predecessor to take down the bad guys and clean up the town.
Nils Lyew wrote the screenplay, and the director is Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego, who recently completed Open Grave with Sharlto Copley (the trailer for which just went online).
The film is now headed to the American Film Market for some more deal-brokering, as part of a two-film Atlas Entertainment package that also includes William Monahan's Mojave (starring Garrett Hedlund). Production of The Man On Carrion Road is currently scheduled, a bit later than originally planned, for March next year.
